Google Ad Grants and paid search.

Niklas de Goys

I currently work hands-on with major Google Ad Grants accounts at UNHCR, covering strategy, setup, optimisation, measurement and scaling across multiple markets.

Before that, I worked on large paid-search setups at momondo and KAYAK, which helps me see where conventional paid-search methods transfer to Grants and where the approach needs to change.

Why this course exists

Google’s documentation explains its products, but it is harder to find a complete account build showing which decisions belong together, what the ads and pages should look like and what to check when a grant barely serves.

Grant Growth follows one fictional homelessness charity through that process. You see the campaign names, keywords, ad copy, conversion goals and URL decisions, then use actual traffic to decide what to change.

How I approach Grants

I usually start by giving the account enough relevant reach through its keywords, pages, geography and Search or PMax settings. Once traffic arrives, I look at the searches, destinations and actions it produces; spending more of the grant is useful only when that traffic helps the organisation.

Throughout the course I separate Google’s requirements from my own recommendations and optional tests, including when I would add controls and when I would leave a working setup alone.
